Ready, Steady, Go!!!

Hello Year 5!

Thank you for all of your hard work last week preparing for your SATs on Monday (and for moving rooms for the Year 6 children). Just remember that you have worked extremely hard this year and next week is your time to shine and show off all of the skills and knowledge which you have acquired this year. I am so proud of you all and know that with determination and focus, you will all do very well! Do yourselves, Miss Ford and myself proud.

Please leave a little message on the weblog for your class mates to wish them good luck for next week. We will read them out on Monday morning.

Have a good weekend. Get plenty of sleep! See you all ready to go on Monday morning.

Friendship Pie

Hello everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the last few days of the holidays!

I am just off now to meet up with some of my friends for a catch up and I found this lovely recipe which Miss Ford gave me. Have a read:

Friendship Pie

1) Make the base with fun and games.

2) Add two teaspoons of trust.

3) Stir a warm smile into the mixture.

4) Mix a cup of outings.

5) Add a pinch of conversation.

6) Don't forget a shoulder to cry on as a special treat.

7) Put the pie into the oven for an hour at 200 degrees.

8) Take it out and let it cool for a few minutes. Patience is a safety ingredient.

9) Cut it into enough pieces for you and your friends to share.

Think of your friends and all of the qualities which they have to make them special. What would go into your friendship pie recipe?

What awful weather!!!

Hi guys!

Hope you are all well and have been out building lots of snowmen today. What a change in the weather to this time last week when we were getting ready for our visit to Whickham Thorns.

It feels like I haven't seen you all for ages (although I was in need of a lie in on Monday morning!) What have you all got planned for the Easter weekend? I will be spending time with Martin and my mum and dad. I can't wait! I just hope that the weather warms up a little.

Drop me a message to let me know your plans.

Olympic Torch Challenge

Here is your Easter holiday project. I can't wait to hear all about it!

You have to carry out your own research about the Olympic torch. You need to record your findings in your homework book. You work must answer the following questions as a minimum:

*Who designed the London 2012 Olympic torch?

*What inspired their design?

*What shape, size and colour is it?

*Where and when did the tradition of the Olympic torch begin?

*Why do we have an Olympic torch?

*Where is the flame going?

*What have previous torches looked like?

You should also include any other interesting information which you find out about the Olympic torch and the history behind this Olympic tradition. Try to keep a note of any good websites which you find as these may come in useful during the first week back at school. Why not add them to the blog so others can use them too!

Torch Designs

After you have researched the history of the Olympic torch and the inspiration behind the London 2012 design, I would like you to design your own Olympic torch. Take your inspiration from your research, past torch designs and the 7 Olympic values. Label your design and think about what materials you might use to make it. The best designs will be made and used as our own Carr Hill Olympic Torch during our own Olympic Games in the summer term.

As part of your homework challenge, you have to blog at least once throughout the Easter holidays, to let me know how your project is going, and what you think of the task which you have been set.

Happy researching everyone! Have a fantastic half term!

READ VERY CAREFULLY!!!

Here is your holiday project for the half term holidays. Even I am excited about it and look forward to sharing your projects on the first day back after half term.

You have to carry out your own research about a man called Bear Grylls. You may already have heard about him on the TV! You can choose how you want to present the information which you find, e.g. as a poster, a powerpoint presentation, a discussion, a rap etc. However, your work must answer the following questions as a minimum:

*Who is he?

*Where and when was he born?

*Where does he come from and where does he live now?

*What is his occupation?

*What is he famous for?

*What are his best achievements?

You should also include any other interesting information which you find out about him and his lifestyle. Try to keep a note of any good websites which you find. Why not add them to the blog so others can use them too!

As part of your homework challenge, you have to blog at least once throughout the week, to let me know how your project is going, and what you think of the task which you have been set.

Happy researching everyone! Have a fantastic half term!

Can you lead? Can you guide? Do you believe in yourself and your abilities? Do you strive to be the very best that you can?

We are looking for two children (a boy and a girl) with a passion for sport. You need to be able to promote the London 2012 Olympic Games throughout the school and local community.

You need to have good organisational skills and be able to organise a sporting event in school.

If you think you have these qualities and are ready for a challenge, then please apply via the weblog. You need to write an entry which clearly states the qualities which you think you have that would make you a good sports ambassador, and how you would go about promoting the games themselves, as well as the fantastic work that is being carried out in school leading up to the games. You also need to include a sporting event which you would like to organise with a reason why, and which year group/s you think this would most suitable for. Your entries need to be in by Friday 3rd February and the winning bids will be announced in assembly on Monday.

This is such an exciting opportunity for everyone to be part of, help lead on, and share in the fun of the London 2012 Olympic Games. So come on....get your applications in!

Good luck to everyone! I can't wait to read your bids!
