School Council update.
School Council have been particulary busy this term. Having completed a 'Save Water' campaign they then collected ideas for the refurbishment of the bottom yard. Now they have turned their attention to raising attendance. If you would like School Council to discuss your own ideas, please speak to the councillors in your class.
Are you ever late for school? These days you could be met at the door by a school councillor who will take your name and list you on the late register. After only one week, we had hardly any latecomers. Remember everyone, school starts at 8.50am.
Keep up to date with School Council activities by reading their newsletter.

We need your old shoes.................

Carrhill is an official Shoebiz collection point. Thanks to shoe collections nationwide, Blue Peter has raised enough money to buy 152 bikes for community care workers, 893 art kits, 3,333 skipping ropes, 66,652 memory books to help children to remember their parents… and lots more!
But your hard work isn’t over yet. There are more than 600,000 children orphaned by AIDS in Malawi, and the Shoebiz appeal can to help even more of them.
Carrhill children have donated many pairs of shoes to the cause. This week we would like to make a last push before the collection date next week.

Anti-Bullying Competition 2006.

From November 20th, Carr Hill will be celebrating Anti-Bullying week. Posters and leaflets are extremely difficult to find, therefore in true Carr Hill tradition, we will solve this problem ourselves. Children from all year groups are invited to enter a poster competition. All entries should be no larger than A3 and should include an anti-bullying slogan. Entries should be handed to School Councillors by November 23rd. Winning entries will be framed and displayed in school throughout the year.
Why note visit the Anti-Bullying Week site for ideas.

School Council
At Carr Hill much of our ethos is rooted in the idea of ‘partnership’. We believe that our children should play a realistic role in the decision making process. With the formation of a School Council, the children have an opportunity to share their views and play an active role in school improvements.
Representatives are elected from Years 2 to 6 and meet fortnightly. Classmates share concerns or ideas with their class representatives for discussion at the meeting.
As issues are discussed children learn:
• To take part in discussions.
• To develop the skills of chairing meetings and taking notes.
• To gain confidence to make decisions and carry them out.
• To contribute actively to the success of their school.
Recent discussions have led to school improvements, the provision of fruit for all pupils, a ‘Buddies’ system for break times and the development of this web site. Currently we are discussing the implementation of playground games and the use of playground equipment.
