Mr Sweeney is Retiring.

Stuarte Sweeney.jpg

We have happiness and saddness all mixed up in our school this week!

After 18 years teaching in Carr Hill our Deputy Headteacher Mr Sweeney is retiring to become a full time Grandad!

He came into school this morning and said he felt a bit weird knowing this was the last Monday of his final week in Carr Hill. Don't think it's all sadness though because granchild number two is on the way which means he'll be kept busier than ever in 'retirement land'!

To celebrate his time in Carr Hill the staff are taking Mr and Mrs Sweeney out for a posh nosh night later this week. After eighteen years he deserves a treat.

Many pupils, past and present have been talking about their memories of Mr Sweeney like when his car got stuck in the snow in our playground and it took most of the staff to push the car to where he needed to park it.

On his own admission Stuarte has said he will miss our school, the children in particular. He has had so many happy years working within our community the excitement of retirement is mixed with the sadness of leaving somewhere he really loves to be - in the classroom.

Many of you will know Mr Paul Harris who has taught in Carr Hill for nine years. Mr Harris was appointed as our new Deputy Headteacher last week to take over from Mr Sweeney.

Some parents have asked if they can contribute towards a leaving gift for Mr.Sweeney so we have put a tin in the school main office for anyone wanting to make a contribution.

We are sure Mr Sweeney is going to have a long and happy retirement and it will not be too long until Mrs Sweeney joins him. No more getting up early, fighting the rush hour traffic and those reports to do every year!

Enjoy life Mr Sweeney and we'll see you when you come back to visit us.

Callum Kidd.

Walking with Dinosaurs.

Last Thursday, leaving nursery behind, we ALL visited the O2 Arena and the 'Walking with Dinosaurs' show. Jaws dropped. Carr Hill has seen memorable days but on this occasion the children had an experience they will never forget.

Bolam Lake

Foundation Stage took full advantage of the recent good weather and visited Bolam Lake. The children collected natural materials to add to their clay tiles before searching the woods for the Gruffalo. We did find his cave but sadly he was not at home.

An unexpected lunch guest.

The lads.
